Does anyone know what the requirements were for previous versions?ĥ) Given my system limitations, is there an older version of flash player or a non-adobe equivalent such as gnash I should try?Ħ) Should I install an older version of Ubuntu? NOTE: Plugins cannot be deleted or uninstalled, only disabled. Because they can slow down the browser, you can disable ones you are not using. Now that I'm using the "flashplugin-nonfree" I get more or less the same results as with adobe flash plugin.Ĥ) The system requirements for adobe flash may have increased sometime after I originally installed ubuntu 10.04 in August 2010. Plugins help Firefox manage internet content such as Flash, Silverlight, Java, and Office, and there are probably many installed plugins you don’t need. The system monitor shows that usally I'm using 75% of memory and approaching 100% of CPU.

My amateur conclusion: adobe flash plugin maxes out my CPU and uses up a great portion of memory when playing videos in browsers.

Graphic memory: 128MB of graphics memory (but I have no idea how to figure what my computer's graphic memory capacity is) Intel Pentium 4 2.33GHz, AMD Athlon 64 2800+ or faster processor (or equivalent) I also looked up system requirements for Adobe Flash Player 10.2 (If I can provide any other info let me know.) Video card is: VGA compatible controller : ATI Technologies Inc RC410 Simply navigate to the webpage, which hosts flash file, you want to play, open an add-on, choose from detected files and click the Add button. I did a lot of digging and found the following information: Play flash files anywhere across the WEB Flash player is a well design Firefox Add-on, which allows you to add any flash file into the app's playlist and access them by simply clicking an addon icon. What is the difference between adobe-flashplugin and flashplugin-nonfree?Ģ) The performance problems persist, so I am now posting some further info here in the hopes someone can help. So now I will provide more background info and ask further questions in case anyone out there can help with this:ġ) Before installing 'flashplugin-nonfree' I had been trying 'adobe-flashplugin' and 'ubuntu-restricted-extras' per the recommendation of qjmoss: This made some difference but unfortunately the basic problem remains.

The results of my informal test are below, and as you can see they are mostly the same for both Firefox and Chrome. The problem seems to be a cross-browser issue, today I did an informal test of various sites I frequently use on both Mozilla Firefox and Chrome. Streamed videos on various Web sites are slow and choppy for me.
